Repairs to Svatá Hora

Fr Stanislav Přibyl, C.Ss.R.In 2006 we will effect further repairs to and maintenance of  Svatá Hora.
In the south cloisters reconstruction of the stuccowork is soon to be completed. Near the Březnický Chapel in the southern section of the cloisters the restoration of the stuccowork decorations in the Chapel of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (until 1874 the Chapel of the Purification of Our Lady) has been completed. A small amount of gilding remains to be carried out, but this will soon be completed.Preparations for installing a CCTV system. The first part of a CCTV system was installed at the end of 2005. This year it will be extended at a cost of 2,000,000 CZK.  A LCD television screen will also be installed in the Chapel of Saint Ignatius, which we would like to turn into a chapel for families with small children. We have to come up with 10% of the state’s contribution, which amounts to just less 200,000 CZK.  Planned repairs to the doors in the cloisters.  The Svatá Hora Foundation has financed repairs to the doors leading from the cloisters to the Priory.  Now the doors the Svatá Hora Museum are being repaired. At the same time it will be necessary to install glass fore-doors in front of the Museum in order to conserve heat.  This will cost approximately 50,000 CZK.  Repairs to the interior of the Basilica. Thanks to the efforts of MPs, this year we will receive 4,000,000 CZK for repairs to the Basilica. With this money we would like to install a more effective heating system, repair the windows and install new pews and new lighting. This would be the final phase of repairs to the Basilica. In the last issue I reported that we would have to come up with 10% of the above sum. Following negotiations with the Ministry of Culture, this condition has been waived. Currently the Basilica is being digitally measured and designs are being prepared.   Commencement of repairs to the Stalactite Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene. We have been promised a grant by the Region of Central Bohemia in the sum of approximately 200,000 CZK. With this money we would like to dehumidify the Chapel and at the same time start the restoration works.  This restoration will be very difficult, as there are not so many chapels decorated with artificial stalactites in the Czech Republic, which means there is a certain lack of expertise in this area.  Apart from the major repairs, there is a lot more work to be done which almost qualifies as maintenance and repairs. It will be necessary to start repairs to the plasterwork, especially on the lower parts of the exterior walls, where the top layer of plaster and paintwork have been damaged by the unsuitable materials used in their upkeep in the past, leading to the salinisation of the plaster.  I would ask you to help your place of pilgrimage.  We have an account especially for repairs, 35-520395309/0800 and another account for the everyday running costs of Svatá Hora, 520395309/0800.  Both accounts are with Česká Spořitelna in the town of Příbram.We pray daily for our benefactors and a Mass is said for them Friday at 7.00 am.   P.
